Now Is Not The Time To Stand On The Sideline

June 3, 2020

To Our Spin Family,

All of us at Spin are horrified by the blatant police brutality and injustice targeted toward Black Americans in towns and cities all across America. In the past few days and weeks, it has become abundantly clear that we can no longer observe from the sidelines – that we must use our platform to effect change.

Now is not the time to stand on the sideline.

We stand against police brutality and a criminal justice system that unfairly targets Black Americans.

We stand against efforts to suppress the voices of Black communities and to systematically deny them the right to vote.

We stand against the suppression of free speech and the right to protest peacefully.

We stand against the systematic devaluation of Black lives and those of all People of Color.

We are trying to do our part. First and foremost, we have been listening, reflecting, and learning. We are having conversations with our friends, family, and each other. And we have been reflecting on the idea of Allyship and how we can change our own pre-conceived notions and behaviors to become better partners with all marginalized groups of people. Our hope is that we can lift up Black voices and follow the leaders of the racial justice movement. We bear the burden of dismantling institutional racism in our country.

There are hundreds of worthy organizations that deserve our support, but we would like to highlight a few whose missions resonate with us in particular.

Fair Fight
Equal Justice Initiative
NAACP Legal Defense Fund
Color of Change
Nationwide Bail Fund

Please consider joining us in supporting these worthy organizations – by donating, volunteering your time, or even just signing a petition. Every action we take can make a difference.
